Cookie Policy

This policy explains every cookie www.webup.co.uk uses, who sets it, what it is for and how long it lasts. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with personal information more generally.

The short version: nothing except the cookies we genuinely need to run the site is set unless you tell us it is alright. You can change your mind whenever you like.

1What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. When you come back, the site can read that file again. Cookies are how a site remembers things between pages and between visits.

Some cookies are set by us. Others are set by companies whose content we have put on our pages, such as YouTube or Google Maps — these are called third-party cookies, and the company that sets them decides what is in them. Similar technologies such as web beacons, pixels and browser storage do much the same job, and everything in this policy applies to those too.

2How we ask for your consent

The first time you visit, a banner appears asking what you are happy for us to set. It has three options, all equally easy to use: Accept all, Reject all, and Manage preferences if you would rather choose category by category.

Until you choose, only the strictly necessary cookies in section 3 are set. No analytics, no marketing and no embedded third-party content loads before then. Every optional switch starts turned off, and closing the banner without choosing is not treated as agreement.

Your answer is stored in a cookie on your own device, along with the date you gave it, so that we do not keep asking and so we have a record of what you agreed to. We ask again after six months, or sooner if we add something new.

3Strictly necessary cookies

These are needed for the site to work and to keep it secure. They are not used to track you and cannot be switched off. The law does not require your consent for them, but we still tell you they are there.

CookieSet byPurposeExpires
webup_consent WebUp Media (this site) Remembers which cookie categories you agreed to, and when, so we do not ask again on every page. 6 months
cf_clearance and related Cloudflare tokens Cloudflare Confirms you have passed the security check on our contact form. Without it we could not stop the form being used by bots. Set only on the contact page. Up to 30 minutes

4Functional cookies

These let content hosted by other companies appear on our pages. If you have not accepted this category, that content is replaced by a placeholder with a button to load just that one item — nothing is sent to the company concerned until you press it.

WhereSet byPurposeExpires
Google reviews and news widgets Elfsight Displays our reviews and news feed, and remembers widget settings between visits. Up to 1 year
Embedded videos
VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, YSC, PREF
YouTube (Google) Plays our videos, remembers your playback preferences and measures viewing. We use YouTube's no-cookie player, which delays these until you actually start a video. Session to 2 years
Map on our contact page
NID, CONSENT
Google Maps Shows the map and remembers your Google preferences. Up to 2 years
Newsletter signup form MailerLite Runs the signup form and stops it being shown again once you have subscribed. Session to 1 year
Client onboarding form Jotform Runs the onboarding form and keeps your progress through it. Session
Solar quote demo Website Solar Quote Runs the quote calculator demo and keeps your answers while you work through it. Session

Some of our pages also have a play button that opens a video in a pop-up. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play, so pressing it is your request for that video. We use the no-cookie player there too.

5Analytics cookies

These tell us which pages are read, how people arrive and where they give up, so we can make the site better. We only use this for our own reporting.

CookieSet byPurposeExpires
_ga Google Analytics Tells one visitor apart from another. 2 years
_ga_SSNB2F3GNP Google Analytics Keeps track of the current visit for our Google Analytics property. 2 years
_hjSessionUser_2875957 Hotjar Recognises a returning visitor so their visits are not counted twice. 1 year
_hjSession_2875957 Hotjar Holds the current session, so a heatmap or recording is not split in two. 30 minutes
Other _hj cookies and browser storage Hotjar Supporting values Hotjar uses for sampling, screen size and recording state. Hotjar publishes the current list in its own cookie documentation. Session to 1 year

Hotjar records anonymised sessions and heatmaps. It is set to mask what you type, so the contents of our contact form are not captured.

If you visited before August 2026 you may still have _gid or _gat_gtag_UA_4241735_10 cookies from our previous Google Analytics setup. We no longer set those, and rejecting analytics removes them.

6Marketing cookies

These let us see whether our advertising works and let the companies below show you our adverts on other sites. They build a picture of your interests across the web, which is why they are off unless you turn them on.

CookieSet byPurposeExpires
_fbp Meta (Facebook) Identifies your browser so Meta can measure our adverts and show you related ones. 3 months
_fbc Meta (Facebook) Records the advert you clicked to reach us, so the visit can be matched to it. 3 months
fr and other facebook.com cookies Meta (Facebook) Advert delivery and measurement, set through the Facebook SDK we load on our pages. 3 months
mailchimp_landing_site and related Mailchimp Records which page you arrived on and links website activity to email subscribers. Up to 1 year

7Changing or withdrawing your consent

You can change your mind at any time, and it is no harder than saying yes was. Use the button below, or the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page.

When you turn a category off we delete the cookies it set and reload the page without the scripts that put them there. Cookies held by a third party on its own domain, such as facebook.com, can only be cleared through your browser or that company's own settings, so section 8 is worth reading if you want to be thorough.

8Controlling cookies in your browser

Your browser can block or delete cookies for every site you visit, which gives you the final say regardless of what any website asks for. The steps are published by each browser maker:

Blocking everything will stop parts of this and most other websites working properly. Blocking only third-party cookies is usually a good balance.

9Changes, and how to contact us

We review this policy whenever we add or remove anything that sets cookies. If we add something new we will ask for your consent again rather than assume the old answer still applies.

If anything here is unclear, or you think we have got something wrong, please tell us:

  • By email at hello@webup.co.uk
  • By post to WebUp® Media, 8 Ffordd Pendyffryn, Prestatyn, LL19 9RY

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Their details are in section 10 of our Privacy Policy.
